Chris Stapleton turns Country Classic into first ever Double Diamond Country Single

In 2015, Chris Stapleton and Justin Timberlake had one of the biggest television moments in Country Music when they performed 'Tennessee Whiskey' on the CMA Awards.  Many of the Country fans that immediately downloaded the single actually had no idea that the track had already been recorded by David Allen Coe (1981) and George Jones (1983).  Jones' version was actually a big hit on Country Radio in the 80s, peaking at Number 2 on The Billboard Country Music Charts and becoming a staple of his live shows.

Now, 45 Years after the Country Classic was first written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove, the song has reached the pinnacle of sales in the Country genre. The re-recorded version by Chris Stapleton, from his Traveller album, has earned it's spot as the first ever Country Music single to be certified Double Diamond, for sales of over 20 million copies. Although there are a few Diamond selling albums in Country Music, Chris Stapleton's 'Tennessee Whiskey' is the first Country Music single to reach this milestone. More impressively, just two other singles, outside of Country Music, have reached this summit- including Bruno Mars 'Just The Way You Are' and the Post Malone Swae Lee collaboration of 'Sunflower'.
