Crews say the road will be closed indefintely
Drivers in Clifton Park, prepare to be detoured if traveling on Riverview Road. On Tuesday, a trailer carrying an excavator hit the bridge carrying Riverview Road over the Northway, potentially causing damage to the structure.
DOT crews have the road shut down in both directions as they inspect the damage and plan repairs. The Northway remains open in both directions, but drivers should be prepared for the likelihood lane closures and lane shifts while the damage is assessed.
Detours have been set up and the DOT recommends using Crescent, VanVranken, Clamsteam and Dunsback roads as alternate routes.
In 2021, a similar accident occurred a few miles north when a boom lift being carried by a vehicle hit the Sitterly Road Bridge near Exit 9. The damage was so substantial that the entire bridge needed to be replaced, causing traffic issues for months.
