The deceased individual has been identified as Thomas D. Walsh Jr., 62 of Cohoes, NY.

The ongoing investigation has determined Mr. Walsh had been out on a watercraft and entered the water intentionally to go swimming without a floatation device. After swimming for a period, he showed signs of distress and went under water. Another individual attempted to assist Mr. Walsh but also became distressed and was rescued from the water by a passing Good Samaritan. The second swimmer was evaluated by Emergency Medical Services at the scene but did not require further treatment.
