Dolly Parton Receives Academy Award
Dolly Parton can now add an Academy Award to her list of credits! The honor arrives a long way since winning her first major industry awards as CMA Vocal Duo/Group of The Year with Porter Wagoner in 1968, 1970 and 1971. Dolly has actually been twice nominated for an Academy Award for two original songs composed and performed for film. The first, was the theme song to 1981's movie '9 to 5', and the second came in 2006 for the song 'Travelin' Thru' for the film Transamerica. Although she didn't get the win for Best Original Song, in 2025 The Academy Awards have presented her an Honorary Oscar for her Humanitarian Efforts.
Dolly has always been one to give back, with a long list of charities and contributions, via The Dollywood Foundation and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. In addition to the Honorary Oscar, the Imagination Library has already been awarded several honors from the Library of Congress, The National Education Association, Recording Academy (The Grammy Awards) and many more.
From the Country Music Hall of Fame to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and every industry organization in between, Dolly Parton has received just about every award a singer could claim. In the end, I think a lot of fans would agree that an award for doing good and making this world a better place is the best honor anyone can ever receive.
