At least four have shut down
Freihofer's, a beloved name and brand for over a century in the Capital Region, has permanently closed its bakery outlets in the Capital Region and other areas of the state, according to the Times Union.
The closures include Fuller Road in Colonie, State Street in Schenectady, Cronin Road in Queensbury, and in the Montgomery County town of Nelliston. Bakery outlets in Rome and Syracuse have also reportedly closed down.
Bimbo Bakeries, which owns Freihofer's, issued a statement regarding the closures.
After careful analysis and consideration, we made the difficult decision to permanently close the outlet store in Albany and redistribute product to other locations. We appreciate all of our associates who worked at this store and are taking steps to help ease them through this transition
Bimbo is also the parent company of Entemann's, Sara Lee, Arnold Bread, Lender's Bagels and Thomas' English Muffins. Earlier this year It was also announced that the nearly five decade old Freihofer's Run for Women, which is held annually in Downtown Albany, would be renamed the 'Delightful' Run for Women - after its Sara Lee brand.
