She is running 360 miles from Buffalo to Albany.
Samantha Slattery, who is from Castleton-on-Hudson, decided that she wanted to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the completion of The Erie Canal by running from Buffalo to her home near Albany. The trip, in total will be 360 miles.
Now you may be thinking to yourself, is Samantha some kind of trained Olympic athlete? The short answer to that question is no. She is simply a mom from the Capital Region that enjoys long distance running. While her husband will be driving the trip along with her, Samantha will be making the run right along the Erie Canal Trail. Her plan is to do the run in 30 mile increments with her husband meeting up with her to supply her with food, water and whatever supplies she needs.
Besides making this run to celebrate the 200th anniversary, Samantha is also helping raise funds for Hudson Taconic Lands, a local non-profit that focuses on land and water conservation in Rensselaer county. Samantha plans on starting her run on August 1st and it should take her roughly 7 days to complete the trip.
