Step into the American Revolution on September 19–20 at Fort Ticonderoga during “Lodging as the Nature of the Campaign will Admit,” a REAL TIME REVOLUTION® Signature Event. As winter approaches and British forces prepare to advance south from Canada, Continental soldiers at Ticonderoga face a critical challenge: building enough shelter to keep the army healthy and ready to defend the region. Throughout the weekend, visitors can become part of that effort by picking up a mallet or saw and working alongside Continental soldiers to construct the simple wooden huts that sheltered the army on Liberty Hill in 1776. With hands-on activities, living history, and demonstrations, the event offers an immersive look at the everyday work, ingenuity, and determination behind the Revolutionary War.

The weekend features ongoing hut building from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., giving visitors the chance to try historic timber-framing techniques firsthand. Additional highlights include a 12:30 p.m. presentation by author Steven Elliott on the vital role of army housing and camp construction during the Revolution, a 1:45 p.m. fife and drum parade to the Liberty Hill Encampment, and a 2 p.m. cannon demonstration exploring the Continental Army’s defenses and artillery. Set against the historic landscape of Fort Ticonderoga, this two-day event invites visitors to experience 1776 not as a story already decided, but as it unfolded—with soldiers racing against the changing seasons, limited resources, and an uncertain enemy.
